Dream team accomplishes mission impossible!!

October 11th, 2008 | By: Tamim | No Comments »

a last minute goal from the head of Ahmed Fathi was more than enough o send Egypt’s u-19 team to the African championship held in Rwanda in January. after hope was lost and everybody was switching off TV and the media sharpening its teeth toward Miroslav scope, team manager the boys achieved the impossible and qualified.

after a disappointing 3-3 draw in Alexandria 2 weeks ago in which we played a very bad game and were always catching up with the Zambian team, we had to win in Zambia by any score and avoid any goals against us.

the mission seemed impossible considering the team performance, the atmosphere there and the lack of international experience of these young players;adding insult to injury, the pitch was very bad and the weather was even worse.

to everybody’s surprise the team showed spirit in the last minutes and succeeded in scoring from a header from a long free kick ball. after the goal the referee whistled announcing the end of the match and Egypt qualification.

the importance given to this team is because they will be playing next summer in the world cup held in Egypt and are being prepared to actually win it so it would have been a great disappointment if they failed to even make it to the African championship.

here is the goal

in other news:

-both Mido and Amr Zaki are injured and will not feature in Djibouti’s match which is a huge blow for Hassan Shehata who has two remaining options now in Emad Meteb and Ahmed Abd El Ghani.
