Egypt 4 – Djibouti 0 : waiting for the draw!!
You can say that our performance during this phase of world cup qualifiers was OK where we didn’t do our best but we did what we needed and qualified for the next round as a top seed.
This OK performance was concluded with another non satisfactory rather efficient performance from our team with a 4-0 victory over humble Djibouti
As expected the match was one way toward Djibouti’s goal that if anything worth noting adopted an astonishing defensive technique that even Italians can learn from; the technique depends on putting all your players in front of the goal so that the ball can’t possibly find a way into the net and never ever attack even if it is the counter type!!.
A fact that was illustrated by their own coach, Egyptian and former ahly player by the way, who said that when he received the job he found out that the players lack the basics of football and that he should teach them what to do in the field.
For our part, Hassan Shehata fielded some new faces like Ahmed Shedid Qenawy, Ahmed Abd El Ghani, Mohamed Homos and Amir Abd El Hamid as well as some bench warmers like Ahmed Eid Abd El Malek.
For a reason, he was forced to do so after the sudden injury of both Mido and Zaki leaving him with no options in attack so he put Abu Trika as a striker, a role he doesn’t impress in and Emad Meteb as a lone striker.
In defense, he put Hany Said and Wael Gomaa as expected and allowed Hany more freedom in attack; then in midfield he put a solid one formed from Hosni Abd Raboh, Ahmed Hassan and Mohamed Shawky.
This formation only earned one goal which wasn’t enough at all considering that we owned the ball for more than 95% of the time.
In the second half, he substituted sluggish Ahmed Eid Abd El Malek with Ahmed Abd El Ghani to increase our attack power which resulted in 3 more goals.
Ahmed Hassan played very well and made a lot of effort, you can say he did the dirty work of the game; while Hosni Abd Raboh isn’t the same player who won the MVP award in Ghana- bad transfer to week league of UAE league, money?
All in all, our performance wasn’t good and didn’t impress; our passing was useless and stopped in front of their penalty area creating no danger at all, our crosses were very poor but we can say that all this is because the lack of motivation especially after the first goal.
Anyway, here are the goals
Now we all will be looking forward to the 22nd of October in Zurich where the draw for the next round will be made.
The seeds for the group were made, take a look:
Pot 1: Cameroon, Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria
Pot 2: Algeria, Guinea, Mali, Morocco, Tunisia
Pot 3: Benin, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Kenya, Zambia
Pot 4: Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sudan, Togo
This means that we will avoid teams in pot 1 which is a big relief considering the names and the revenge they would like to get from us (Cameroon – Cote d’Ivoire). It also means that there is a big possibility that we will be grouped with one Arab team, I love these North African derbies.
What do you think? And who do you prefer?
One last thing, WHY THE HELL DID WE PLAY WITH THE OLD JERSYS????

You may avoid teams in POT 1 but what about the Malawi Flames? Am sure you wouldn’t want another trip to Blantyre.

Its absurd that Algeria are in pot 2 ahead Benin, Burkina Faso, Togo, and Zambia. Algeria are the team you want from pot 2. They are helpless away from home.

Your most favorable group:
Egypt
Algeria
Gabon
Mozambique
Your least favorable group:
Egypt
Tunisia
Burkina Faso
Togo

I’d probably agree on both counts with Mark though I’d might substitute Benin with Burkina Faso. I think Benin are the more consistent side as Burkina Faso had been dormant since 2004.

Does the winner of each group make it to the WC or is there another round? South Africa is already in I am assuming right?

Mo, the winners of each group will automatically make it to the WC. South Africa will participate as hosts and so will Angola (Afica Cup of Nations)

sscouser: in fact, i want us to be grouped with malawi, how easy can it get better than that!!
shane: algeria , tunisia and morocco are the very three teams we want to avoid, our games with them are a battle and whether they are good or bad they play agaibst us as if it is their last match. it is the north africa derby.
mark: i couldn’t agree more
mo: top of each group goes to the world cup and top three to the african cup

So Africa gets 7 teams in the World Cup? 5 groups plus South Africa and Angola? WHy Angola?

angola isn’t qualified to the world cup, it will host african cup 2010

So 6 teams will make it? Isnt it usually 5?

there r new jerseys? y did bo trika where #5? and i think u were right about the lack of motivation!i predict egypt getting to quaters of wc…from there everything is a toss up!man i wnt a group like this
tunisia: to shut those dudes up
burkina faso: easy points
togo: to keep us on our toes and dont get relaxed, they r good but not good enough to beat us…like the rest of the competion in AFRICA!!!!!!!!!!! WE R THE BEASTS/KINGS of AFRICA!

I’m really happy Malawi made it, I was supporting them over Congo DR in our group. Congrats Malawians, I’d like to have Guinea, Gabon and Mozambique in our group, not Algeria because they are the worst time wasters in the world (I’m really glad Libya got kicked out, they follow the same Algerian tactics). Anyway with all due respect to all other teams, I want to see the five teams in pot 1 represent Africa in 2010 because they are the strongest and most consistent.

mo: yes it is usually 5 but this time sa is hosting the world cup so there will be 6
omar: we didn’t play with the jerseys we played with in ghana, we wore the old ones. tunisia and burkina faso can’t be grouped together like us and malawi, the group you chose is very difficult, togo is very good and you know how are our matches against tunisia!!
hany: couldn’t agree more with you in your choices except for your support for malawi part!!

Im excited for the draw… If Egypt is in the WC I will do all I can to make it to SA

y did bo trieka were 5? yea but im sick of hearing from my tunsians buddies…besieds we wud whup togos azz!

abu trika wore 5 because players numbers have to be from 1 to 18 because it is an official match organized by fifa

he wore it in acn…so if we make wc he wont weaR 22?

no, because in wc we are allowed to register 23 player while in qualification matches we are only allowed 18
