Nice post about the Champions League Kazi, being a Liverpool supporter, I want Barcelona to win it now since Liverpool are already out. Messi is the best player in the World, Barcelona is the best team in the World, it’s just that simple. I wouldn’t mind if any of these teams you mentioned won it as well, especially Bordeaux, who are playing some excellent football and they have my favourite arab, non-Egyptian player playing in Europe, Chamakh. How good is this guy along with Gourcouff and Alou Diarra? Unstoppable team they are becoming, and the only teams that can get past them at this stage are Barcelona and probably Inter after they’re solid showings against Chelsea. It’s going to be a very interesting quarter final draw and I think United will get the easiest draw (as usual) by playing CSKA again and second leg at home. I think you’re right about Rooney, if Rooney gets injured they will be an ordinary team, just like they were at Wolves, it’s amazing how they got all 3 points in this game. But with Rooney playing and Valencia providing crosses, it’s going to be really tough stopping them. Oh how much I’d love it if the draw ends up like this:

Barcelona vs CSKA
Inter vs Lyon
United vs Bayern
Bordeaux vs Arsenal

“Again, i am not sure about you, but as an Algerian, i always take my countryman’s side right or wrong, and if i do not like what he has to say , i keep my mouth shut.”

With all due respect DZMaloudia but I disagree about this sentiment. It can lead to trouble if your allegiance is just based on where you( or your parents…) were born. I think it is important to support what is right instead of just what looks/ speaks like you… I mean this with all respect man but its just my observation and philosophy based on what I have seen from the Algeria/ Egypt events…

And of course Pro Evo >>>> Fifa. Always has been always will be lol.

And I would love that draw you mentioned Hany. I am a big Arsenal fan and I am hoping we get one of the French teams

To put my two-pence worth in to the “why do the other Arab nations try harder against Egyt” debate… I think a similar thing happens with England, not just in football but in other sports too.

Our nearest and dearest are always much more up for a game against England than they might be against someone else. Aside from historical complaints, which don’t have anything to do with sport, I would take it as a compliment that they want to put one over their more successful local rivals.

Aidan, that was like a shining ray of light. Well done bro.
As for the CL….. GET OUT OF HERE.
BARCA VS. ARSENAL!
MAN. UTD VS. BAYERN!
LYON VS. BORDEAUX!
WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO DESERVE THIS? Only kidding. We’ll smash Barca as revenge for the final. As for Man. Utd vs. Bayern, great rematch as well. Lyon vs. Bordeaux should be fantastic too. Inter has pretty much guaranteed it’s place with CSKA pitted against them. Let’s just hope it doesn’t go to their head.

I see Barca winning home and away, sorry dude :D Messi is just unstoppable msa. I hope he carries this form onto the World Cup. I hope Bayern piss all over Manchester as well. Bordeaux are gonna win against Lyon, Inter CSKA doesn’t need a fortune teller really.

I think Egypt are not trying to mime anyone with their football, they play possession football with short passes and some crosses from the wings. I can’t recall a team that plays that way, since Italy play their famous Catanaccio and England play physical football. By the way, Algeria play like England, physical football mainly depending on the physical fitness of their players, they play alot like Everton as well depending on set pieces. Tunisia and Morocco are more of the same, playing neat football and depending on some individual skills which is different to Algerian and Egyptian football.

el-Ahly have a MAJOR problem with strikers this season. Meteeb I was never convinced he’s a good striker, just his first two seasons with Ahly (04/05, 05/06). Other than that he has been horrible even with the national team. Fadl as you can see is extremely slow, which does not work with African teams like Gunners who are all about pace and strength.

I have to add, I’m starting to have doubts about Hossam Badry, he started well but the last month or two he’s been taking terrible decision and playing player that are not even Betrol Assyout Standard. I’m talking about Ahmed el Sayed and Ahmed Ali. Two absolutely abysmal players who do not deserve to play for Ahly. Ahmed el Sayed is the easiest defender to outsmart in the World, and Ahmed Ali does not know how to defend, horrible players.

Ahly desperately need new striker as obviously the ones we have suck.

If this match was 2 years ago, I would’ve been sure we’ll win the reverse fixture 3 or 4 nil, but now I’m worried we might not score enough to make it through.

70% possession without having more than 2 real chances against a small team like Gunners really says alot about the awful strikers we have. I really wish Meteeb goes away, I can’t stand watching him anymore. Fadl is too inconsistent, he can score alot in one match and do nothing in the next one.

meteb is a waste of space ….. In al-ahly and especialy on the national team. What happened to the players on the under 21 team that beat Italy 4-2 …. Does ahly currently have any of them on the team? I heard afrotto was in ahly is that true?????

Only Shoukri, who scored 2 of the goals against Italy is a starter and is contributing to the team consistently. Afroto, Shehab and Talaat make substitute appearences but are not regulars like Shoukri.

Ahly is pretty shaky in the second round of the championship. The international players are almost mediocre (ahmed hassan, sayed moawwad, emad moteab). only wael gomaa is still convincing though pretty far from his highest level. Trika is injured and mohamed barakat should simply quit.

their game against petrole assiout was horrendous.

Shehab is interesting though. Afroto has talent but is as unstable as chikabala in zamalek.

Actually if you follow Ahly pretty closely, Ahmed Hassan and Barakat are the 2 best performers this season hicham, don’t know where you got the idea that Barakat should quit…

Agree about everything else though, everyone else is underperforming and your view about Afroto is spot on.

Barakat’s been terrible.. so far from his level. He’s one of the reasons behind the loss to Mahalla.

Ahmed hassan has a serious fitness problem since mid feb. but indeed is still as dedicated as ever.

it was a mistake to lend AMIR SAAYOUD!!! really downright stupid. esp. that AHLY fans were holding huge signs showing their love, respect and desire that he stays after the Algeria/Egypt fall out.

So one bad match and he’s terrible? I think he’s the only one that has flair in the team right now and I wouldn’t drop him for anyone else.

Sayoud needs experience before playing for Ahly. He can’t break the first team of Ahly without having any experience, as good as this guy looks I think Badry made the right decision when he loaned him out. Next year he would’ve had some games under his belt and can deal with the Egyptian League.

The spain match is off… there should a match with England after the summer. That’s about it for now, I think there definitely will be more friendlies before the Qualifiers, just don’t know when.

Anytime.

Ew3a yegeelak Messi :D another game, another hattrick. 24 Matches, 25 goals. I couldn’t even do that on football manager 2009. I hope he stays injury-free and leads Argentina to the World Cup in the Summer
