Egypt – Algeria: round 1 goes to Algeria
What a way to trouble things between Egypt and Algeria a head of a very important game between them?!! Even the most creative scenario writer wouldn’t have come up with this one.
The derby between Egypt and Algeria has started very early and in a very heated manner and it seems that there will be many rounds to fight. The first round ended yesterday for Algeria after JSM Bejaia club defeated Al Masry in the quarter final of the first north African club championship.
Bejaia won 2-1 on aggregate after they lost in Portsaid 1-0 and then won in the away leg 2-0 in a very tense match in front of a packed stadium with very enthusiastic crowd to meet club Esperance of Tunisia in the semi final.
The tense atmosphere in the match wasn’t about football itself; unfortunately former Egyptian national team twin legends Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan were involved in scandalous actions during the game.

First the Algerian club scored a goal then Hossam expressed his anger from the referee in a very inappropriate way by assaulting him which resulted in a red card for the Portsaid’s side manager.
Then Bejaia scored their second and qualification goal so his twin Ibrahim Hassan………well see for yourself
I need to make it clear that this is an individual behavior from them that can’t be generalized to all Egyptian teams and that they do this stuff on a regular basis in the Egyptian league and has been fined and banned a lot of times so there is nothing new!!
It was a very stupid thing to do knowing that there is a crucial match in world cup qualifications between the two countries which will heat the atmosphere adding fuel to an already burning fire of a long history of notorious incidents in these matches that I wouldn’t like to mention here or now.
It think some official form the EFA need to make an official apology for the Algerian fans because the last thing we need in the upcoming match in June is their violence and the media in both countries especially in Algeria is already creating the hype and charging fans!!
Fortunately or unfortunately, the second round is being held tomorrow between Ismaily and USM Alger in the Arab champions league; Ismaily won the home fixture 3-1 so they should qualify easily, unless?!!
All I fear that Ismaily team won’t get out of there safely!!…….RABENA YOSTOR!!

Good summary, Tamim. I was not aware there were twins involved, so I was very confused between Ibrahim and Hossam. It’s very disappointing to see a great player go about destroying himself that way. He (or they) did irreparable damage to their careers. It was a low profile match, so it was not necessary to take things to that level. Algerian fans are notoriously crazy about football, so the best thing to do when you play in Algeria is to adapt. Have you seen this year’s game between JSK and Etoile? Despite the many objects that were thrown at l’Etoile’s players and despite Etoile’s loss (1-0), it was business as usual. Just focus on the game and on getting out of there in a single piece! I don’t expect things to go too badly at the NT level. FIFA would not tolerate that. Regardless, I think Egyptian and Algerian folks should start working hard on improving things in preparation for the big game. Tomorrow’s game between USMA and Ismaily should also provide an indication of where things stand. I expect Ismaily to qualify, but knowing USMA at home, a 2-0 score is not farfetched. Good luck

Is this article writtine by an proffessional journalist or by a chauvinist supporter????..come on what does this sentecne means “All I fear that Ismaily team won’t get out of there safely!!…….RABENA YOSTOR!!
How can you say this, and you are talking about somebody who insult and disrespect millions of supporter and i am sure he is safe!!! and as you can see yourself in the video how he was covered by security guys.
But let me tell you something, we “Algerians” may be we do have a hight temper but i don’t remember that in the history of our football that somebody did this unrespectfull behaviour because simply Respect is very important toward our people …I have just one question to this guy “Hassan”, Does he have a Familly and kids who were watching him???????????? Fa Ida lam tastahi fasna3 machit

thanx amo and rachid for your comments.
miss algerien: i based what i said from what i saw in the reactions of the algerian fans in the video and in web forums and previous incidents that egyptian teams faced; and as you can also see that i am totaly against what ibrahim and hossam did because it is a very shameful thing to do which doesn’t represent us.
all respects to u and good luck isa

Tamim Thanks for your reply,
I strongly believe that what this guy did can’t be generalised to my brothers Egyptians which i do deeply respect. It’s just i couldn’t swallow your fear about the safety of the other egyptian team in their second country..because the incidents you are reffering to didn’t go further than throwing a bottles of water which i beleive do happe in any footbal staduim, and the video is showing an aggressive person and even his unrespectfull behaviour he wasn’t exposed to any violence and he was Making the violence.
Thanks again, and My best wishes for the new year to all my brothers Egyptians and the Egyptian Team which we all cheared up during the African Cup.

Wow, that video is insane. I hadn’t seen it until now… Good coverage of the incident Tamim. Has he apologized yet?

fouad: thanx for your comment and good luck to you too

i watchd da ismaily game da fans did da same thing is the did the day b4 throwing rocks and flares on 2 da ground hit a sideline ref n a ismaily player a flare alomst got an ismaily player n i noe wat da twins did was wrong but if dis happens to egyptian club teams i wonder wats going 2 happen to da national team an ismaily player couldnt get da ball for a corner i hope we beat them by more then 4 goals in there home ground and shut them up

Tamim, another data point to support Rami’s soft suggestion of which league is numero uno in Africa: all 3 Tunisian teams advanced to the ACL quarter finals (Esperance, CS Sfaxien, and Monastir). Sfaxien even managed to beat Raja in Casablanca, and that without their superstar Apoko whom they sold for A LOT OF $$$ to a Qatari team. I’m hoping they do the same against Ahly in February in Cairo (and with Boujelbane on their side!).

Unfortunately I am not in the position to give an apology in the name of the Egyptian people to the Algerian crowds here. But, what this idiot twins did is unacceptable. They should go work as fetewat 7ara or something.
Very irresponsible and disgusting attitude!
Thanks to the Algerian security and good people there for keeping them safe even after all the insult they did…
On the other hand, I suggest the government in Algeria to offer Algerian football fans some “calm down pills” before and during the games against Egypt or Egyptian teams
