Egypt – Benin friendly confirmed
the search for friendlies has begun and our first match in our preparations for the world cup qualifications starting in march will be against Benin on the 19th of November in Cairo.
we were supposed to play against Tanzania but then Hassan Shehata and the rest of the technical staff changed their minds and chose Benin; the choice was based on Benin strength and reputation as an African team who qualified to the final stage of the qualifications compared to Tanzania’s poor history, also Benin’s style of play won’t be very different than Zambia and Rwanda.
basically, we need more of these matches but against more powerful teams from inside the continent and it is very important that we play as many matches as possible inside Egypt just to gather the fans fans around the team and put them in the mood before the serious matches begin.
the good news is that Mohamed Zidan and Mohamed Barakat are expected to return for the squad and may very likely to start against Benin after a long saga between Shehata, both players and the media because of excluding them from the team.
in other news, the official emblem for the U-20 world cup held in Egypt in September 2009 was unveiled; take a look.

meanwhile enjoy some goals scored by our professionals in Europe this week.
first Mido against Westham
then Amr Zaki against Portsmouth
finally Zizou against VFL Bochum
that’s all for now
