Futsal world cup: Guatemala 1- Egypt 0

October 2nd, 2008 | By: Tamim | 7 Comments »

well, Egypt played its first match in the futsal world cup held in Brazil against Guatemala and lost 1-0 which is a very narrow margin in futsal. i have to say that my knowledge about futsal is almost zero, although this is the only way we play football in Egypt; but this is our fourth appearance in the world cup so let’s take a look on Egypt’s squad and its group and what should we expect.

first, here are the highlights of the game (silent one though).

from what i aw, we were completely owned in this game; Guatemala should have scored three goals at least;however, we hit the post and were pretty dangerous twice. also we need to work on this very open defense; in most of Guatemala’s attacks there was only one single player.

luckily, the goal keeper ,called HEMA, saved us from humiliation by putting a great performance out there; personally, i was amazed with some of his saves, great reflexes- should we take him in the national team?-

now, we have three games left; one of them with Argentina and the other two are against china and Ukraine, we can win the last two and see if we stand a chance.

History
Egypt attended their first Futsal World Cup in 1996, when they achieved the first victory for Africa in the competition’s history by beating Australia 8-2. Four years later they earned Africa a quarter-final berth with notable victories over the likes of Uruguay and Russia. Although a draw with Argentina would have granted them a place in the semis, they lost 3-4 to the South Americans. The Pharaohs appeared for the third successive time in Chinese Taipei and despite a first-round exit, they made their mark with the biggest margin of victory in the tournament, 12-0 over the hosts.

Qualifications
we qualified after playing the final of the African championship and lost to Libya in the final in Tripoli 4-3. now Libya and us are in Brazil to represent Africa. good luck for them

wow, easy on me.

first i didn’t post for a while because nothing related to the national team was happening except shehata announcing the “usual” 7 professional players for djibouti match; i posted in eid because i am free as you said, otherwise i have very little time free. if you mean club football, there are club blogs on the offside.com for ahly and zamalek, u can follow them if you want (this is why rami posts more , becuase he covers local club football).

second, i took the historical background from fifa because it is only facts to be stated. i also commented on the match;however, because it was never broadcasted anywhere and because futsal football is all about skill, there is nothing much to say about it. i also assumed that not much readers know that there is a futsal world cup going on and that they don’t know much about our history in it nor who are our players.

third, all the sites you listed took from the same fifa’s page.

fouth, thanks very much for your interest in the blog

fifth, i will be more than happy if u would like to join me

Tamim, Egypt didn’t get owned we had 62% possession. And one less shot than them. Egypt’s problem in Futsal is that they depend entirely on individual skills and not on team work. If you watch us play against Ukraine you will see us having something like 70% possession and yet they win 5-0 on the counter. Ukraine match we can’t win, our only hope was to beat Guatemala and China and maybe draw Ukraine so we can qualify. Now we have no chance whatsoever to qualify. The matches are broadcasted on ART 5 and ART 6 sports. I advise you to get a professional Futsal tactician to write the articles on the matches because Futsal is TOTALLY different than Football we are used to, or you can take articles from FIFA as they are. Keep it up anyway and don’t take any critiscm from anyone personally.

thanks hany for your information and your valuable opinion but i checked the results and we didn’t play against ukraine yet, our next match is tomorrow againstt argentina.

this teamwork issue is the problem of all egptians in any field not just football but hopefully we can do sth in this tournament.

i used to blog for zamalek, but now i lost interest in the team and the local league so i left the blog to midos.
