Right in time!!
no, i am not upset or angry from the result of Zambia’s match as many people are. in fact, i am kind of happy it happened. i wonder why do we only see negative things,we should always look at the full half of the cup. although the final result seem to be not satisfying, there were a lot of positive things in the match.
yesterday, egypt equalized 1-1 with zambia in the final match of group c . amr zaki scored for egypt and felix catongo scored for zambia.unfortunately, i didn’t have the chance to see the full match because i was very busy.however, i watched the extended highlights and i can say it was a good match.
egypt’s goal: said moawad went through the left flank and played a well done cross which amr zaki played with a first time kick to score his first in the tournament.
zambia’s goal: zambia scored at the 88th minute the equalizer, felix catango made advantage of the relaxation of the egyptian team especially ahmed fathi and dribbled him and shot a powerful ball in the net.however, it wasn’t enough for zambia to get through to the second round.
why i am not upset?
1- after impressing in the first two games , the team needed this draw to get their feet back to the ground and eliminate the perception that they will win the tournament easily. because, i felt from the players and the egyptian media that we have won the tournament and we are now celebrating!!!!!.
2-there is an unofficial rule that the team that wins the three matches do not win the tournament eventually. for example, in 2006, guinea, Nigeria and Cameroon didn’t go far while they have won all their group stage matches.
3-our match with Cameroon was by any means an extraordinary and historical match that is very very difficult to repeat. the problem is that people built an expectation that egypt will play all its matches at this same level of performance, but no team can maintain this high level all the time.
4- egypt wasn’t that bad, if you saw the chances egypt wasted you would recognize that egypt was owning the game except from some counter attacks from Zambia. the players faced very bad luck.
5- for the first time, one of the strikers SCORED!!. this was the first goal for egypt to be scored by a striker.
6- for the first time also our wings became useful, Egypt’s goal came from a cross from said moawad. so when you see a goal, you realize it was a good achievement.
7-Zambia had more motivations than egypt. they must win and only win to qualify while egypt may either draw or win or even lose 2-0.
8- the bottom line is that we are in the quarter finals and we are on top of our group. what do we need more?!!.
9- i know that the team will play better in the next matches.
what should we do now?
1-the players must restore the spirit and concentration of Cameroon’s match.
2-hassan shehata must focus on the defense players, cuz in the coming matches there is no room for mistakes.
3-hosni abd raboh and zidan are essential for scoring and winning
4- Egyptian fans should gather around the team again and they shouldn’t be hesitated from this result
