shocked but it isn’t over yet!!
yes we lost against malawi but it isn’t the end of the world and we shouldn’t mourn or something because they will come to Cairo stadium and everyone will know his real size. all i hope is that the media doesn’t put it all on hassan shehata and make it his fault, really the conditions doesn’t help.
we entered this match missing all our attackers also we are missing ahmed fathi, mohamed shawky ,sayed mowad and shady mohamed and that is 3/4 of the team who won the african cup; so it was logical that we don’t score or impress, but what shocked me is that we conceded. i am NOT saying this as an excuse but if any team in the world misses this amount of players they won’t certainly be at their top form.
i didn’t watch the match because i was very busy but generally we aren’t this kind of team who play good away from home, remember the african cup qualifiers we equalized in all our away matches. but when these teams come home i don’t need to talk about how they look like; even the biggest in the continent fear cairo stadium ask cameroon and cote d’ivoire.
to put it straight we shouldn’t be upset at all from this result and don’t start worrying about qualification for these reasons:
1- malawi isn’t a big team and not even a football team, they are now on top of the group but wait till the end and as one reader said who laughs last laughs long.
2- ALL big teams stumbled in this round, check the results of cameroon, cote d’ivoire, morocco, angola and ghana, also remember that tunisia lost in their first match at home from burkina faso!!. the question is: can you imagine these teams crashing out of the qualifiers?? i guess no.
3- mallawi won against the reserve team except el hadary and defense line
4- we will win (insha2 Allah) the 3 coming matches including congo in kinchasa because this match will be in September when we restore all our players and show what we can offer.
5- when our players feel danger they shine but as long as they feel things are easy going….. u know!!
6- i am sure that the players will have some hard time from hassan shehata after this loss, if not it will be from the media and everybody will be back to his mind; in some way we needed this win to refresh ourselves.
7- even the biggest teams in the world have difficulties in qualifiers, look at italy in euro 2008 qualifiers or even look at england which didn’t qualify at all!!.
now i have to reply to some comments i read:
1- i wasn’t arrogant or underestimating the opponent when i said malawi isn’t a match for egypt because they really aren’t, check history if u want. in fact, who started it anyway, this coach who said we will burn the Egyptian team!!!!. i dare you to ask anyone in this world where is malawi? if he even recognize it that would be an achievement for you guys!!
2- to prove i wasn’t arrogant, i never mentioned in my post the word champions!!
3- if there are all these malawi fans on the world cup blog, why don’t you start a blog???. oh wait, who cares about malawi anyway!!!!
4- it is natural how everybody hates the champions, see how italy is hated after they won the world cup. but unfortunately haters will continue their hate until 2010!!!!
that’s all, now i will leave you with this video just to remind everybody who we are??
cheer up egypt fans and i won’t say Egyptians.

Dear Tamim. Do you by any chance have a video download link to the goal. I know you may not want to see it but I have scoured the whole web to find it without any luck? I walked out with a minute to go and then Malawi scored *DOH*

BTW, we don’t hate Egypt!! We Malawians are peaceloving people!! We appreciate the good flavour of football Egyptians play. That is why it was incredible we won. Malawi was the better team on Saturday and even coach Hassan admitted that!

Tamim, losing a game of football is never the end of the world (at least it shouldn’t be!). Malawi doesn’t and has never hated Egypt. However, you annoyed a lot of Malawi fans by arrogantly writing our team off. You’ve accused the Malawi coach of claiming that the Flames will burn the Egyptians -however, the Egyptian coach made similar remarks in an Egyptian newspaper(i can’t remember which one).
Egypt is suffering the fate of those who underestimate their opponents – a dangerous thing to do – and i think you have learnt a good lesson. The Malawi National Team on the other hand knew that they were playing against a strong team – and they played exceedingly well. You say you didn’t watch the game because you were busy – I think you didn’t watch becaue you thought that your victory was a foregone conclusion. Anyway, if you had watched the game, you would have see how well our team played. Don’t blame us for savouring our victory. After all, if you had won, you would have done the same.
PS – if this blog is meant only for Egyptians then don’t make it accessible to the rest of the world because we can and will comment.

Reena, you seem to be a good follower of Football. I just wanna tell you all your words make perfect sense except one thing, the part where you say we learnt a good lesson. Our problem is we never learn, look at our qualifiers for ACN we drew against Botswana, Mauritania and Burundi, yet we managed to Defeat Cameroon twice and Ivory Coast in the Cup itself. in 1998 qualifiers we lost to Liberia away, in 2002 qualifiers we drew against Namibia away, in 2006 qualifiers we drew against Benin and Libya away. You see what I’m talking about? We always underestimate our opponents if they’re not wellknown across the continent. I’m guessing in 4 years time I’ll be adding “we lost against Malawi away” with all due respect to you and your team my Malawian friends. So, all I can say is no we haven’t learnt anything or we would’ve won… Anyway I would just like to add that I’m fascinated by the fanbase of Malawi fans in here and a warm welcome to you all from Egypt.

and Hanif, I’m currently searching for it, I wanna watch the reaction of the Malawi fans after the goal, One of the best Celebrations I’ve witnessed in my life (I remember seeing guys shaking their behinds to the camera!) This coming from a fan who went to Old Trafford twice and countless derby matches here in Egypt and Attended the final of the ACN 2006 against the Ivory Coast along with 100,000 Egyptians in the stands.

Tamim you should take it easy bro, You can’t diss them like that and expect them to say kind words in return. But I agree right now we are a world class team and we will prove ourselves in 2009 confederations cup against Italy, Brazil and Co.
Anyway Malawi, watch this space, Next week in Cairo is gonna be like hell for you. Does anyone know by any chance if there are gonna be Malawi fans in Cairo for that game? I advise them to go, we aren’t violent like the rest of the North Africans, you will really enjoy it. GoodLuck and hope you continue in the form you are playing in, would be real cool to see Malawi in WC, or atleast the final stage of the qualifiers.

I hope egypt lose, really. Go for it Malawi.

Football is all about entertainment. Coaches and players make prematch comments just to hype themselves up. Tamin took the prematch comment from Malawi’s coach literally. The literal interpretation “we will burn Egypt” got Tamin all worked-up. Hey calm down young man. The comments were made without any terrorist intentions.
Malawi means “flames” as in flames of fire. This is where the Malawi national team derive their nickname. Fire burns!!! So when the coach said “we will burn the egypt team,” it was in keeping with the Malawi National team’s nickname. Just as Cameroonians are the indomitable Lions and Nigerians, the super Eagles, would Tamim get worked-up if the respective coaches of these teams said in their pre-match comments that “we will prey on Egyptians?”
This Tamim guy is seriously getting on my nerves as he is not only DULL but also a JERK!!!

Bute tunisia is the best hehehehehe
(if they hadn’t gaycoaches)
By the way, Yes Egypt is the best in eating beans heheh
no really Al Ahly and the Egypt National team are worldclas, for U that dont know , its true , they have football history, I know u have some egyptian arrogance but that is just some of u.
You know it hard to quallifing from 54 african countries for 5 availbel worldcup tickets. CAF is the biggest confedaration comperd to UEFA ,CONCACAF,CONMEBOL,AFC. Euope gets 16 places and southamerica containing 5 , maybe with more places there is more room for african countries.
teams like Mallawi have also football historie and are also member of CAF.
Sport should be peacefull and is for sportmanship so be proud on your whole Federation. I like the super eagles and desert hwaks , blackstars , Faraohs, dont destroy the magical about it.

UGHHH for the people that are looking for the goal. TOOO BADDD Malwai can’t even afford to broadcast the full game. they couldn’t even afford to show it to their own people.
And for the people talking about that egypt sucks. well u know were still ACN champions, so when a country like malawi makes it to the ACN then we can consider them something. not just cuz they won a game against egypt we consider them big.

Pharaos,
Stop leaving your stuping comments here.If you are saying Malawi doesn’t exists, when you were boarding your plane where were you heading to? To Warm heart of Africa,Malawi of course.Everything has its own beggining and its own Ending.Malawians have started their trip to world cup finals in South Africa and African cup of Nations in Angola.Egyptian have ended their winning History.
You young man from Egypt,Remember we also called Sons of Moses our President Dr.Bingu Wamutharika.Ifucan recall long time ago he rescued Israelites from Pharoas’ cruelity to Canaan. The same thing will apen,Our canaan or the promised land is South afria and Angola. The Sea wich will be crossed as dry a land is Egyptian team.Shut up!! what are talking about?
Whether you like it or not we are in the same Continet,Africa. Why are we in the same Group. Why dint FIFA put you in the European Groups? That should give an answer that your are Africans we are dwelling in the same Continet.Euro 2008 is being played now.But you are not there.
About your stupid excuse of absence of Striking force,You mean the Exstence of your team in the hands of Those players and the rest are just back filling the space, they are like remains(Madeya). What a disgraceful and embarasing statement to those prayers.and For your own information,Egypt being the great team Shehata did not tell his players to concede that goal deliberately with the hope winning the remaining Matches
When something has gone wrong sometimes its not good to show stupidiness with lame excuses
Shut up!!!!! and continue with your mourning process.

Victor Sitima, well let’s not steer this conversation away from Football, so I’m only gonna comment on the last paragraph, No It’s an excuse whether you like it or not. Imagine you weren’t playing without number 10 with Long hair and the other forward and the backright and the backleft, and putting in 4 players playing their international debut instead. What would you feel like if you had lost? yeah first thing you will resort to is we didnt have our best players, that’s what happened with us. So, We will leave our “stupid” comments here, we will continue to reply to your posts and if you don’t like it here you might as well leave, this is our BLOG not yours, other Malawians are welcome here, but people like you should keep their keyboards to themselves rather than talk S***.

Go for it Malawi, you have done it before and I know you will do it again, except that there will not be juju in Cairo.

I believe the game of soccer is meant to entertain but at the end of the day there has to be a winner. And it is not an offence for the winner which in this case happens to be the little known(according to Timam) Malawi, to celebrate. The mere fact that Egypt are African Champions and ranked a respectable lot in the world, calls for even much much celebration for a team ranked so low to beat them.
We as Malawians are so proud to have beaten them here and would even be pleased to repeat the same in cairo to show it was not a fluke doing it here in Malawi. The pressure is on Egypt to restore their pride!!!!
However I dont think we should use this fora to castigate one another, football is meant to be fun and our comments should also bring fun in all of us. AFRICA please let us UNITE and not stab one another!!!!!! So Mr Sitima as a fellow Malawian I think you are a bit out of order, our Malawian culture teaches us to bring peace when provoked thats why we are called THE WARM HEART OF AFRICA!!!
Otherwise the Pharoahs should brace themselves for another scorching flame this week end!!

The good and the best thing was to watch the Egyptian team dancing and chasing their own shadows. What ever happens in Cairo, we Malawians are proud of our team. I was young when Malawi beat Egypt or is it the Pharaohs in Kenya (2-1). I was also young when Malawi beat Egypt again in 1992 1-0. So last week brought good memories to me. Another 1-0. You guys how many times have your team beaten Malawi?
You may be the African champions. Even if we do not qualify for the finals, we will still be proud that we beat the Champions 1-0. Now you guys are saying we played with a Reserve side. Before the game, you were saying you will win. By the way, it is not raining now and the pitch is good (approved by FIFA)
By the way, I could have said that Egypians are lunatics, but I know it will not be correct because I know very good people in Egypt, men and women

I totally applaud Mr Victor Sitima for putting this Tamim stupid person in his place. If football is about entertainment and fun, this stupid person should not have talked about my beloved Malawi in such an arrogant way.

Bright, nice to know that the roof of your ambitions is beating us. Shows how great we are, doesn’t it? and yeah whether you approve or not, you defeated the Egyptian second string side. You say you don’t care what happens in Cairo, please let me know how you fel afterwards on this blog. How many times did we defeat Malawi? The answer to that will be how many times did you win the ACN? Better still how many times did you qualify? My friend I advise you not to talk about history here it will embaress you. But, I still applaud you for your victory, it was well deserved and the pitch was good enough to play on, no excuse.

enough b2a……ana zhe2t men malawi we 2araf malawi!!!!!!!

How Could a seasoned Team Manager use a reserve side on in a crucial qualifying game.I know you never started off from Egypt hoping to lose, far from it. This is a lame excuse. After all, this is not the first time we habe beaten you.
I think you guys are still suffering from superioty complex.
Anyway, lets wait for Sunday. You are in the offing for the shock of your life. You will be providing some more excuses.

You Egyptians, just wait for Sunday. Malawi is going to give you another whip and we will see if you are going to have the last laugh.

Do you remember when Malawi beat Egypt 2-1 and the Egyptians broke alot of items in the dressing room after the game. You are going to repeat this notorious act on Sunday – Flames more fire!!!!!!!
