What will you do if you are Amr Zaki?

October 27th, 2008 | By: Tamim | 9 Comments »

Instead of mere reporting on the offers Amr Zaki is receiving and the clubs that are interested in him, I thought that I should involve you more in the subject. So put yourself in Amr Zaki’s shoes – I know they are very expensive now- and decide your future.

Your loan from Zamalek to Wigan will end by the end of the season and then you will be a Zamalek player again so any offer will be addressed to them.

1st choice

You can stay in Wigan, the team that made your name and presented you to the world and the place where the fans adore you as they never adored anybody before; the club will be offering all what the money they got (€20 million) for you after they sell Heskey to Liverpool.

Advantages: you can make a bigger name, raise your price and get more used to the playing style of the EPL
Disadvantages: you will still be playing for a small club for another season which reduces your chances to play at the champions league and maybe the UEFA cup nor you have the chance to win silverware of any kind plus you will be one year older.

2nd choice

You go to Manchester city who are offering €10 million – expected to increase- and join Robinho and probably Henry in the world’s richest club.

Advantages: you will get more exposure than in Wigan because everybody is running after Manchester city right now and you will go to a higher level club who plays in the UEFA cup and of course you will enjoy higher wages.
Disadvantages: you are still playing for a small club, no matter all this money spent because they are meaningless, and still your chances for winning silverware is weak.

3rd choice

Join real Madrid who are according to Spanish news paper Marca and English Daily telegraph are interested in you and they will pay as much as you and Zamalek want.

Advantages: you are playing to REAL MADRID!!!!
Disadvantages: your career will end in silence like many others (Michael Owen, Cassano, Beckham and the list is long) and you will not be the same player as you were before you join them.

4th choice

Wait for offers from Chelsea, Liverpool, Juventus and see what can they offer

Advantages: you will get the chance to have real playing time there and your chances to win championships are very high in addition to the fame you will get.
Disadvantages: you may be used as a backup player or a bench warmer and your efficiency on goal will get lower

5th choice

Return to Zamalek!!!!!!

Advantages:
none
Disadvantages: how far can you count?!!

While you make up your mind watch your wonder goal in Liverpool

So what will it be?

Great idea for a post. Here are my thoughts:

1. If I am Zaki I am worried about Zamalek… They are a club in chaos and could do something crazy and reject bids for the market value…

2. Real Madrid is a NO. Period. Would be a horrible decision.

3. Man City is interesting but I would be worried about them signing too many galacticos and them taking over the squad. This situation will be more evident after January and into the summer signing period. If they are gonna sign a few big names but Zaki will still be starting it may be a good choice but there is always the risk of others joining…

4. Here is what I would do. I would look to transfer to Liverpool, Valencia, Juventus, or possibly Arsenal. Other then that I would consider Man City but if that doesnt work I stick it out at Wigan for another year… I think Zaki is best suited for the EPL over spain and Italy. Within the EPL its either Liverpool or Man City depending on which one he will get a chance for more playing time with… Sorry to ramble but Im starving to talk some Egypt football…

Sweet post Tamim, very original. I think that he should stay at Wigan for one full season at the very least which basically translates to choice 1. Although choice 2, and 4 could make sense depending on the situation. For Egypt as a team it’s best he keep getting first team minutes and stay sharp in front of goal.
