Zambia 0 – Egypt 1: Resurrection of the Pharaohs!!

October 12th, 2009 | By: Tamim | 73 Comments »

Change, total Dramatic change it is; Friday night we were praying for a result against Zambia in an atmosphere of despair and frustration and now we are preparing for the 14th of November, Eager to score as much as we can, cheer as loud as our throats are capable of and get this hard ticket to South Africa next summer and prove once and for all that we are the champions of this continent.

For a moment, I was convinced that our bad performance was going to turn this game into another disappointment, but Hosni Abd Raboh Proved me wrong and scored what might be the goal of his career to revive hope in the hearts of 80 million Egyptian.

It wasn’t our fanciest performance, Zambian attacks came one after another but El Hadary’s saves came along proving that the high dam is still the legend of African goalkeeping.

Our defense looked terrible with Gomaa committing a lethal mistake early in the game while Oka seemed shaky and served as our Achilles heel that Zambian players can easily dribble through and create chances.

Zambia started by pushing us hard; although we started with more midfielders, we found ourselves obliged to return to defense leaving Zaki as a sole striker in the front and consequently losing any form of danger we could have constituted on the Zambian goal.

As minutes passed, we began to restore control and play our football; However with Zaki and Abu Treika only in attack, we couldn’t do much unlike the second half when Ahmed Raouf entered.

Support from Midfield was lacked and the result was the absence of coordination between various lines in the field except from Sayed Moawad who was truly the man of the match with his effort and crosses and of course his assist in the goal.

With this lack of support, Zaki had to move to the sides and cross the ball for those coming from behind but as soon as we lost the ball, Zambians ran fast and turned the ball into a dangerous counter attack.

Barakat seemed completely out of form and his presence was never felt, returning from injury he should have been fielded in the second half when Zambian defenses opened and we were looking for a second goal.

We stayed like this for the entire first half in which Zambia missed two certain goals and the post had to deny them another; at this point, I thought it was over and we should pack our bags.

The second half was different, Fathi played as right wing and Barakat returned to midfield so we seemed more dangerous and started to control the ball more, Shehata fielded Raouf which added to our striking force; Zambia became under pressure and after a couple of dangerous chances, the goal seemed imminent.

In a play similar to our third goal in Brazil, Moawad and Abu Treika did their thing and Moawad sent a ball to the edge of the box only to find the bomber, Hosni Abd Raboh bury it in the net.

After the goal we should have pressured more to score a second which could have saved us a lot of calculations but anyway we got the job done and now the ball is in or court.

Highlights of the game

First half

Second Half

It should be mentioned that we played on a very bad pitch that even the most powerful teams can’t perform on and our stay and transportation there wasn’t easy at all having to travel more than 200 Km from the airport from the Stadium, add to that a terrible atmosphere and huge pressure.

All in all, We earned these three points fair and square and those who say we bribed Zambia to leave the game for us can eat their nonsense…….how do they come up with these things anyway!!!!!

What’s next?

Obviously our previous calculations were wrong as they were based on the assumption that after goal difference and amounts of goals scored; direct matches would be taken into consideration and so we need to score two goals only; well, we were wrong, in case we are equal in everything, we will have to head for a tiebreaker if FIFA decides or a draw would take place, mere luck would say its final word then.

To avoid all this we need to win by 3 goals difference, be it 3-0 or 4-1 or “5-2″ and we are there.

Apart from that, Anticipation is building hugely around here; everyone is literally talking about the game. That day I was in the street I found a shop owner arguing with a customer about our ability of beating Algeria, after 5 minutes I was taking the subway to find myself in the middle of a discussion between a group of young men about the match.

Fans are preparing heavily for this match, I can’t describe their enthusiasm and anticipation for this game, their anger and eagerness for “revenge”; one thing I can say for sure, it will be one day to remember and the visitors should start worrying.

Who’s returning and who will be missed?

Zidan will be back, a very wise decision from Shehata as we need all and every talent to win this match. Also Meteb will be back and I guess Mido will fight for a place and our striking force would return to us.

Gomaa, on the other hand, is a doubt as he got his second yellow on Saturday and we will have to wait and see if the card he got in Malawi’s game will count or not.

From now until 14 of November we can do one thing

Imagine that with the voices of 90 or maybe 100 thousand fans……ooooh I can’t wait to get my tickets!!!

UPDATE 2: the egyptian federation is giving algerian supporters 5000 ticket for the november game……just to remember: in Blida not a SINGLE egyptian supporter get hurt, i hope the same for our supporters in cairo…im confident that the sport spirit gonna win.
Air Algeria is organising spcial flights…….believe my egyptian brothers, we are so proud of our team, we would go and support them even in hell.

to Adham: thats good new for you, but just to remember…zidan played in algeria, and Mido??? who the hell is Mido….no disrespect….i like player like abu trika, zidan, shawky, real football players…but why the hell do u thing this Mido is a worldclassplayer….comon guys, what did he so great for egypte, 2006?? you did it with zaki, 2008? where was he??? confed cup?? where was he, recent qualification games?? where was he???
Egypte is a great Squad but Mido has nothing to do in it…..the greatest achievment of him was to make this nice lady marry him.
the guy take more care of his hair than giving his best for the team.
abu trika scares me, zaki maybe, zidan if he has a good day, but mido???….never

I pray Egypt beat these stupid arabs called Algeria.

GO EGYPT!

I love how Algeria are lying – pretending that they will attack! They will be defending for their lives.

ISA Zidan will score, and of course Treika.

Please, tell me – is Gomaa banned for this match?

To be honest, the song isn’t algerian, it is saudi and egyptian rappers have responded to it very powerfuly, but the point is why use it before the game and what’s up with the picture of the pharoah beeing p** on!!!

we will support our players with all what we got but we won’t mix football with other things and we wont be bad winners!!!

Dear Mostafa…

like Tamim mentioned, some of our supporters are crazy, so there is alot of speech against egypte….but you gotta admit that in the blida game, there was no violence against you or your supporters, so why are you talking about damages to our supporters in egypte. i dont get it….in blida there were more than 1500 egyptuan in the stadium, and beside hearing alot of insults, nobody got hurt phisically….and was is so wrong trying to get tickets for the algerian supporters….finally we gonna get 2000 tickets, so whats wrong with that??? arent we aloud to support our team?? and if anything happens to the supporters……shame on egypte! your supporters went back home 100% healthy….i hope you think about it. i hear alot of egyptians say: the algerian should be careful in egypte, there is no guarantee for nothing, they didnt hurt our fans or our team, but they should be careful, maybe just because they are algerian.
Tamim, is that the egyptian fairness, to take revenge for nothing?? im trying to respect you guys, but all you can write, is how dangerous kairo is for algerian!! and you tell me we are the bad guys!!
i think i got it know, this is an egyptian forum, and you guys should stay with each other, so you can assure each other how bad and dangerous algerian are and how kind and nice egyptian are! well see your kindness soon……
TO REMEMBER: In Blida not a single egyptian got hurt (exept essam El hadary), so please stop that propaganda.

UTHMAN what the F**k is ur problem and Algeria’s problem in general. Before any football game it is normal for people to say comments about how good their team is and how they will demorilize the other team. But is it normal for you to make a coffin with the flag and wish death to the oppent. Tell me what physical thing the Egyptians have done to Algerians. All we have done so far is to talk, but our players are gonna answer back. You guys have absoultaly no sportsmanship. I know ppl that almost cried when they saw that coffin pic and i was one of the ppl that cried. YOu guys made us reach a point where we utterly hate algerians. And i assure you that if Algeria make it to the world cup i will not support them cause you guys have been cursing out Egyptians for the past 6 month. You guys are only motivating us to trash you, did u see how zidan played and won man of the match cause Antar (algerian) was threatning him that he will play better.Algerians have no right coming into the Egyptian blog and critizing us. You guys are gonna go back to ur dssert holes ISA. So far your team had played absoultly no teams of high calaber you are judging that Algeria are the awesomest team in the world by beating teams like Zambia and Rwanda, seriously get a life. And no comment on what ur newspaper wrote.

Uthman you keep forgetting about the 2001 match… You haven’t come to Egypt since that match, and I still remember it as if it was yesterday, the way you wasted time (15 minutes!), the way you celebrated like you won the world cup after the match, the successful attack on the medical staff and the failed attempt to attack the great Mahmoud el-Gohary. This match proved beyond doubt that you hate us, maybe because we’re better in almost everything we do, I don’t know but you just hate us. We have been holding our hatred back since that day and revenge is due… What goes around comes around. Don’t worry, noone is gonna get hurt if we win and qualify, but if we don’t win, it’s gonna get ugly, especially if you tried to celebrate in Egypt.

dear Dareen, you have just talked so far, so we!! i told tamim before that the same guys showing the coffin would come to fight with you if your jewish neighbour attacks you ot whatever. The coffin was hard, but nothing but a symbol that we gonna crush you (in football), no more no less.
you dont need to support us if we make it. i would support egypte if they make it….who should i support else???
our newspaper?? i mentioned i dont read them because they are shit…read my comments!! DONT GENERALIZE!
Dear Mohsen……nice comment, not at all primitive like algerian ones….grow up and get yourself some brain!
Hany, sorry about 2001 (i mean it) it was ugly from our side, i admit it.
if we win and you attacks us, all the talk here would me meaningless…..the world could see how bad losers you are. just go on and attack! you would make your country a big service, just like we did 2001.
Dear Mostafa, im sorry for my algerian brothers who are treating you with disrespect. but as algerian i also have to deal egyptian people like “bigballs”Mohsen, or Dareen, or other egyptians who are showing arrogance and threating algerian people if they come to cairo.
TO THIS EGYPTIANS (AND ONLY TO THEM): YOU ARE NOT BETTER THAT THE SICK ALGERIANS DISRESPECTING YOU.
im trying to keep a civil chat here, but some of you just cant.
ask Mohsen why, maybe im not man enough like an egyptian.

I know for sure it will be a match full of excitement and drama.
I only hope people who will attend to the stadium will come out as safe as they went in.
This can only happen if Algerian media and baltageya apologize to Egypt and the Egyptians about their bull shit they were doing for all these years.
Hopes…

Egypt:Algeria = 4-1 INSHAALLAH!!!!

i wonder what that hate is all about, its only soccer for god’s sake ! we algerians are very competitive and we believe in our team, that’s how we made it so far and trust me in Cairo we’re going to be playing our pride and inshallah we will win ;)
now i agree with uthman dont judge us only through our bad people because they are everywhere and trust me very recently i heard from a friend that his egyptian buddies were planning on burning the algerian flag…what do u call this ??? we’re supposed to be brothers and im sorry but by burning our flag its going too far…so please dont generalise coz we can do that too
also i’ve watched your crazy journalist wondering why algerians hate egypt, well let me tell you something we DONT ! we just get carried away with football that’s true but personally we dont hate you…and to be honest i was pretty shocked by that bald journalist because what he was sayin was hurful, cursing us, and mocking us coz egyptians taught us arabic ? so what? we helped you in 2 wars against israel coz we are always there to help our brothers without talking about it every 5 mins
Anyways, i dont like big mouths so just like i tell lots of my friends, we will see who the winner will be, let the best team will and hopefully it is going to be algeria =D

Sarah: u jeered our national anthem and this isn’t an individual behaviour and your media keeps on spillling their bullshit 24/7 , i mean total bullshit

and if you haven’t seen, Adib, although i hate him, clarified that he was misunderstood and that Algerians are welcome in egypt.

I am algerian and will love algeria to win, however, may the best team win and good luck for both teams.
What my concern is for the Egyptian team is that Hassan Shahata saw the performance of the Egyptian team with zambia the last game, and saw the algerian team performance, and realized that he can not confront algeria with the egyptian team as is as it seemed the egyptian team performance was not adequate while the algerian team played an excellent game against rwanda. Having saif that, Ahmed Shahata’s call for Mido is based on knowing his bed temper, and throwing the blame on him if egypt loses to algeria in alqahira, Mido may cause some disturbance in the field if that happens and he will be an easy tarket to blame. A deja vu situation for Shahata.
Best wishes for both teams.
